Our Space: Roots & Rays Center for Creative Medicine

At Roots & Rays, we believe the healing environment is as important as the therapy itself. Our new art therapy studio was created with trauma-informed and healing-centered design principles at its heart — a place where you can exhale, feel grounded, and know you are deeply cared for.

This is not a clinical office. It’s a relational, community-rooted space designed to hold you with gentleness while inviting creative exploration and connection to nature.

Land Acknowledgement

Roots and Rays Creative Counseling acknowledges that we gather, live, and work on the ancestral lands of the Council of the Three Fires—the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations—as well as other Indigenous peoples who have stewarded this land across generations.

We honor the enduring relationship that Indigenous communities hold with this land and recognize that this acknowledgment is only a beginning. As a healing-centered practice, we are committed to ongoing learning, accountability, and supporting Indigenous sovereignty, voices, and traditions.

We invite our community to reflect on the histories of the land we inhabit and to consider how we can each participate in acts of respect, repair, and reciprocity.

A Trauma-Informed, Healing-Centered Design

Every detail of our space was chosen to support nervous system regulation and emotional safety. You’ll find:

  • Spacious yet cozy rooms, offering a sense of openness without feeling exposed.

  • Soft furnishings and textures that create warmth and comfort.

  • Abundant natural light to support mood, clarity, and connection.

  • Quiet corners for reflection and grounding before or after a session.

Our intention is to create an environment where the space itself becomes an ally in your healing journey — supporting EMDR processing, art therapy sessions, and somatic work with ease and comfort.

Nature as Co-Therapist:

Eco-Therapy at Roots & Rays

Surrounding our studio is a healing garden — a living, breathing space for grounding, reflection, and connection. Here, participants can:

  • Engage in eco-therapy sessions outdoors.

  • Witness the seasonal cycles of plants, pollinators, and weather as metaphors for growth, rest, and change.

  • Experience nature as a calming, regulating force during or after therapy.

We believe that the garden teaches — about resilience, cycles, and belonging. As you move through your healing process, you’ll be in relationship with the evolving beauty of this space.

Grounded in Community

Roots & Rays was created not only for individual transformation but also for collective healing. Whether you join us for art therapy, EMDR intensives, trauma-informed yoga, group therapy or community workshops, you’ll find that this is a space where your story is honored, your pace is respected, and your wholeness is remembered.

“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.”
